State Treasurer Eric Schmitt unveils top 10 Missouri counties for college savings
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – State Treasurer Eric Schmitt today unveiled the top 10 Missouri counties for college savings. The rankings, which have been published on the Missouri Economic Dashboard (MissouriDashboard.com), are determined by county participation rates in the MOST 529 College Savings Plan.
Top 10 Missouri Counties for College Savings:
1. St. Louis County
2. Marion County
3. Platte County
4. St. Charles County
5. Cole County
6. Boone County
7. Clay County
8. Osage County
9. Jackson County
10. Franklin County
“The goal of making these rankings public is to encourage community leaders to analyze what they can do to inspire parents to save for their child’s future,” Schmitt said. “We’re working hard to get as many Missourians enrolled in the MOST 529 program as possible and this is one way for us to track our progress.”
Earlier this month, Schmitt announced a revamped outreach effort for the MOST 529 program aimed at driving greater participation and awareness. The plan offers federal and state tax benefits, low costs and flexible ways to contribute. There are currently more than 150,000 active MOST accounts with around $2.8 billion in total assets.
MOST 529 participation rates for every county can be found onMissouriDashboard.com, a website recently launched by Schmitt that enables citizens to track Missouri’s economic performance.
