JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Treasurer Vivek Malek encourages Missourians to take advantage of the Back-to-School Tax Holiday Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 9. As families get ready for a new school year, this weekend gives tax exemptions on the purchase of clothing, school supplies, and personal computers, allowing Missouri residents to purchase without paying Missouri state sales tax.
As you are preparing for your financial future this July, it’s time to look ahead to this opportunity to save on necessary back-to-school items next month. The money that you save during the tax holiday creates an opportunity to contribute money into a MOST 529 account. These accounts help you to save for your child’s future by growing tax-free.
“For families sending children to school, the Back-to-School Sales tax holiday is so important to help save on supplies,” Treasurer Malek said. “By investing the money that would have been spent on Missouri sales tax, you can save for your child’s future without having to spend extra.”
