October Marks Missouri’s Largest Lost and Found: 2025 Unclaimed Property Auction
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tianna Brooks, (573) 751-5390 JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek invites Missourians to attend the 2025 Unclaimed Property Auction, taking place Thursday, October 9, through Friday, October 10, at Stoney Creek Hotel, 18011 Bass Pro Drive, Independence, MO 64055. This marks the first time in recent years that the auction will be held in the Kansas City area. The auction features items from safe deposit boxes turned over to the Treasurer’s Office as unclaimed property. By law, financial institutions are required to surrender these items after approximately five years of no contact with the owner. The auction does not include real estate or certain types of personal property, such as vehicles. Each year, the Treasurer’s team catalogs items from approximately 1,000 boxes. Auction details along with a catalog of all available inventory can be previewed online at treasurer.mo.gov/auction. PREVIEW TIMES: AUCTION START TIME: Since taking office, Treasurer Malek has prioritized rotating the auction’s location to communities across Missouri—ensuring broader public engagement with the Unclaimed Property Program. In Fiscal Year 2025, the Treasurer’s Office returned over $57.8 million in unclaimed property to rightful owners—the highest annual total in state history, and the third consecutive year of record-breaking returns under Treasurer Malek’s leadership. Unclaimed property includes bank accounts, stocks, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, and contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes. The Treasurer’s Office currently safeguards over $1.5 billion in unclaimed assets and works daily to return them to their rightful owners.
