JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek today announced the results of the 2025 Unclaimed Property Auction, held October 9–10 in Independence, Missouri. The auction generated over $319,000 in total sales—the highest amount sold in a single auction in the past 15 years.

The 2025 auction cataloged items from approximately 1,000 safe deposit boxes that had been turned over to the Treasurer’s Office after roughly five years of inactivity. Year after year, the event draws strong attendance and competitive bidding from across the region, offering the opportunity to purchase unclaimed property through public auction to the highest bidder. In accordance with Missouri law, proceeds from the sale of unclaimed property are deposited into the state’s Abandoned Fund Account, where they remain available to be claimed by rightful owners at any time.

“This year’s record-breaking auction reflects the strong public interest in the program and our commitment to stewardship of unclaimed assets,” said Treasurer Malek. “I want to thank everyone who attended and participated, and extend my appreciation to our dedicated staff whose hard work made this event such a success.”

This announcement comes on the heels of yet another record-breaking year for the Treasurer’s Office. In Fiscal Year 2025, Treasurer Malek’s administration returned more than $57.8 million in unclaimed property to rightful owners—the highest annual total in state history. This marks the third consecutive year of record-setting returns under his leadership.
