JEFFERSON CITY, MO. — April marks Financial Literacy Month, and Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek is encouraging Missourians of all ages to strengthen their financial knowledge and build habits that support long-term stability and independence.
“Financial literacy empowers people to make informed decisions about their money—decisions that affect their families, careers, and future opportunities,” said Treasurer Malek. “Whether you are learning how to budget for the first time or preparing for retirement, understanding basic financial principles is key to achieving lasting financial security.”
Throughout the month, Treasurer Malek is highlighting the importance of accessible, practical financial education and the role it plays in helping Missourians navigate everyday financial challenges. From managing debt and saving for emergencies to planning for higher education or retirement, financial literacy impacts every stage of life. The Missouri State Treasurer’s Office offers free, easy-to-use financial education tools through its
Financial Literacy Portal. These resources are designed to meet Missourians where they are, providing guidance for students, families, and seniors alike.
“Building financial confidence does not happen overnight,” Treasurer Malek added. “It starts with education and continues with consistent, informed decision-making. My office remains committed to making trustworthy financial information available to every Missourian.”
In addition to providing online resources, the Treasurer’s Office continues to support partnerships with schools, educators, and community organizations to promote financial education across the state. These efforts reflect Treasurer Malek’s broader mission to strengthen financial opportunity and economic resilience throughout Missouri. Missourians are encouraged to use Financial Literacy Month as a starting point to review their financial goals, learn new skills, and take proactive steps toward a more secure future.
