PRESS RELEASE
Treasurer Fitzpatrick Statement on 20th Anniversary of September 11 Attacks

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick
released the following statement on the 20th Anniversary of the
September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks: “On this day, we say Never
Forget. And how could we? The images of those planes, against clear September
skies, flying into those iconic New York City towers, the smoldering Pentagon—
these images are etched in the memories of all who saw them that day, on TV at
school, at home watching the morning news, wherever you were, you remember. We must always remember the men
and women who got up that morning and went to work, not knowing they wouldn’t
make it home; the first responders who rushed to those burning buildings,
thinking not of themselves, but only of those who needed help; and we remember
those brave Americans who fought back, preventing further destruction, even
though it cost their lives in a Pennsylvania field. We must also forever remember
the brave men and women who volunteered in the War on Terror over the last 20
years, and the thousands who lost their lives in that effort. Their sacrifices
are incredible and honorable. As an eighth grader on 9/11, I
remember the full gravity of what was happening hitting me like a ton of bricks
as I watched the towers burn and eventually fall with my 2nd hour Social
Studies class. Now, 20 years later, looking back as a parent, as a husband, as
Treasurer, and as a proud American, it is amazing to reflect on the resolve we
displayed as a country and how united we all became in the days and months
following the attacks. Americans are good, and we are even better when we care
for and love one another. I pray that we never forget the sacrifices made by so
many on September 11, 2001 and by those defending our country in the 20 years
since.” ### Follow the Treasurer’s Office on Twitter,
