JEFFERSON CITY, MO — May is the perfect time to start saving for education, and Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek is encouraging families to do just that with the launch of the MOSTMAY campaign. Throughout the month of May, 50 new MOST 529 account holders will be randomly selected to receive a $1,529 contribution to their account.
Missourians who open a new MOST 529 account with a minimum initial deposit of $50 during the month of May will be entered for a chance to win. Winners will receive a $1,529 contribution to Missouri’s 529 Education Savings Plan, helping families get an even stronger start on future education expenses. MOST 529 offers a convenient, flexible, and tax-advantaged way to save for education. Funds can be used for a wide range of qualified expenses, including tuition for K-12 schools, registered apprenticeships, trade or vocational schools, two and four-year colleges or universities, and graduate programs. Savings may also be used for eligible expenses such as books, supplies, room and board, and computer equipment.
“A quality education is one of the most important investments you can make in your child’s future,” said Treasurer Malek. “Saving early gives families the opportunity to grow their money over time instead of facing large costs later on. As Missourians celebrate the end of the school year, we want to encourage them to take the first step.”
Money invested in a MOST 529 account grows free from state and federal taxes when used for qualified education expenses. In addition, Missouri residents may claim a state tax deduction of up to $8,000 per person, or $16,000 for married couples filing jointly. Family members and friends can also contribute easily using the account holder’s
Ugift® code.
Anyone who opens and funds a new account by 11:59 p.m. CT on May 31, 2026, will be eligible to win. Winners will be notified in June. For more information about MOST 529 and the MOSTMAY promotion, visit
